Artist Bio:
Bud Shank was an American jazz saxophonist and flautist, born on May 27, 1926, in Dayton, Ohio. He was known for his distinctive sound and improvisational skills on the alto saxophone and flute. Shank gained recognition in the 1950s as a member of the West Coast jazz scene, playing with prominent musicians such as Stan Kenton, Art Pepper, and Chet Baker.
Throughout his career, Bud Shank recorded over 40 albums as a leader and performed on countless sessions as a sideman. He was known for his versatility, being able to play in a variety of styles ranging from cool jazz to bossa nova. Shank continued to perform and record music well into his later years, remaining an influential figure in the jazz world until his passing on April 2, 2009, in Tucson, Arizona.
