Burl Ives was an American singer, actor, and author, born on June 14, 1909, in Hunt City, Illinois, and passed away on April 14, 1995, in Anacortes, Washington. He was known for his distinctive bass-baritone voice and is best remembered for his folk music and Christmas songs. Ives began his music career in the 1930s, and by the 1940s, he had gained popularity for his recordings of traditional folk songs.
In addition to his music career, Burl Ives also appeared in numerous films and television shows, including his Academy Award-winning role in "The Big Country" (1958). He was also known for his role as the voice of Sam the Snowman in the beloved Christmas television special "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (1964). Throughout his career, Ives received several accolades, including Grammy Awards for his folk music recordings and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.
