Burl Ives was an American singer, actor, and author, born on June 14, 1909, in Hunt City, Illinois, and passed away on April 14, 1995, in Anacortes, Washington. He was known for his rich bass-baritone voice and his folk music performances. Ives recorded numerous albums and songs, including the popular hits "A Holly Jolly Christmas" and "Big Rock Candy Mountain." He won a Grammy Award for Best Country and Western Recording in 1962 for his album "The Wayfaring Stranger."
In addition to his music career, Burl Ives also had a successful acting career. He appeared in numerous films, including "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "The Big Country," for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1959. Ives also lent his voice to several animated movies, such as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," where he narrated and sang as the snowman Sam the Snowman.
