Carla Thomas is an American singer, often referred to as the "Queen of Memphis Soul." She was born on December 21, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee. Thomas began her music career in the early 1960s, signing with Stax Records, where she released a series of successful singles and albums.
One of her most notable hits is the song "Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes)," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961. Thomas also achieved success with duets alongside Otis Redding, including the popular song "Tramp." Throughout her career, she was known for her smooth and soulful voice, as well as her ability to convey emotion in her performances. Carla Thomas was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in recognition of her contributions to soul music.
