Carla Thomas is an American singer known for her contributions to the soul music genre. Born on December 21, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, she is often referred to as the "Queen of Memphis Soul." Thomas began her music career in the early 1960s and signed with Stax Records, where she released a series of successful singles and albums.


One of her most popular songs is "Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes)," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1961. Thomas collaborated with artists like Otis Redding, with whom she recorded the duet "Tramp." She continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, earning critical acclaim for her powerful vocals and emotional delivery. Carla Thomas was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2012, recognizing her significant contributions to the soul music genre.
