Carla Thomas is an American singer often referred to as the "Queen of Memphis Soul." She was born on December 21, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, and is the daughter of Rufus Thomas, a well-known R&B singer and comedian. Carla Thomas began her music career in the early 1960s and signed with Stax Records, where she released several successful singles and albums.
One of her most famous hits is the song "Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes)," which was released in 1961 and became a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Carla Thomas is also known for her collaborations with Otis Redding, with whom she recorded several duets, including the popular songs "Tramp" and "Knock on Wood." Throughout her career, Carla Thomas received critical acclaim for her soulful voice and was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
