Carla Thomas is an American singer, often referred to as the Queen of Memphis Soul. She was born on December 21, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee. Thomas began her music career in the early 1960s, signing with Stax Records in 1960. She released several successful singles and albums throughout the decade, including the hit song "Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes)" in 1961.
Carla Thomas was the first woman to record for Stax Records and achieved significant success as a soul artist during the 1960s. She collaborated with other prominent artists such as Otis Redding, with whom she recorded the duet "Tramp." Thomas continued to perform and record music into the 1970s, leaving a lasting impact on the soul and R&B music scene. In recognition of her contributions to music, she was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
