Carole King is an American singer-songwriter who was born on February 9, 1942, in Manhattan, New York City. She began her career in the 1960s writing songs with her first husband, Gerry Goffin, for artists such as The Shirelles, The Drifters, and Aretha Franklin. King rose to fame in the early 1970s with her solo album "Tapestry," which is considered one of the greatest albums of all time. It won four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and has sold over 25 million copies worldwide.


In addition to her successful solo career, Carole King is known for her contributions to the music industry as a prolific songwriter. She has written or co-written over 100 hit songs that have been recorded by various artists. King was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Her enduring influence on popular music continues to be celebrated by fans and fellow musicians alike.
