The Carpenters were an American musical duo consisting of siblings Karen (vocals, drums) and Richard Carpenter (keyboards, vocals). They were active from 1969 to 1983 and achieved major success in the 1970s with their soft rock and pop sound. The Carpenters released numerous hit songs, including "Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," and "Rainy Days and Mondays," among others. They won three Grammy Awards and sold over 100 million records worldwide. Tragically, Karen Carpenter passed away in 1983 due to complications related to anorexia nervosa.
