Charley Pride was an American country music singer and guitarist. He was born on March 18, 1934, in Sledge, Mississippi, and passed away on December 12, 2020, in Dallas, Texas. Pride was one of the few African-American artists to have success in the country music industry during the 1960s and 1970s.


Charley Pride achieved great success with numerous hit singles, including "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'" and "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone." He was the first black member of the Grand Ole Opry, and he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. Throughout his career, Pride won several awards, including three Grammy Awards and the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year award in 1971. Pride's contributions to country music have left a lasting impact on the genre, and he is remembered as a trailblazer for African-American artists in the industry.
