Chubby Checker is an American singer and songwriter born on October 3, 1941, as Ernest Evans. He is best known for popularizing the dance craze "The Twist" with his 1960 hit song of the same name. "The Twist" was the first song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in two separate chart-topping runs, in 1960 and again in 1962. Checker's energetic performance and catchy tune helped make "The Twist" a global sensation and an iconic dance song.
Aside from "The Twist," Chubby Checker also had other hits like "Let's Twist Again" and "Pony Time." His music and dance moves played a significant role in popularizing the twist dance style during the early 1960s. Checker's contributions to music and dance have earned him a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted in 2008.
