Artist Bio:
Chubby Checker is an American singer and songwriter best known for popularizing the dance craze "The Twist" in the early 1960s. Born as Ernest Evans on October 3, 1941, in South Carolina, Checker adopted his stage name as a playful reference to Fats Domino. His cover of Hank Ballard's song "The Twist" became a massive hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1960 and again in 1962. This success led to Checker becoming a symbol of the twist dance phenomenon that swept the nation.
Checker continued to release popular dance hits throughout the 1960s, including "Let's Twist Again," "Pony Time," and "Limbo Rock." He is considered a trailblazer in the music industry for helping to bridge the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll. Checker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 for his contributions to the music industry and his impact on American pop culture.
