Chubby Checker, born Ernest Evans on October 3, 1941, is an American singer and songwriter best known for popularizing the dance sensation "The Twist." The song "The Twist" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1960 and again in 1962, making it the only single to hit the top of the charts in two different years. Checker's energetic performance of "The Twist" on American Bandstand helped propel the song to international fame and solidified his status as a rock and roll icon.

In addition to "The Twist," Chubby Checker had several other hits in the early 1960s, including "Let's Twist Again" and "Pony Time." Checker's influence on popular music and dance culture is significant, as he helped popularize the twist dance craze that swept the nation in the early 1960s. Checker's impact on the music industry earned him a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing his contributions to the world of rock and roll.
