Cissy Houston is an American gospel singer and soul artist born on September 30, 1933, in Newark, New Jersey. She is best known for her powerful and soulful voice as a solo artist and as a background vocalist for various artists, including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Chaka Khan. Houston began her music career in the 1950s as a member of the gospel group The Drinkard Singers, which also included her sisters.


In addition to her successful solo career, Houston is also recognized for being the mother of the late legendary singer Whitney Houston. Cissy Houston has received numerous accolades for her contributions to the music industry, including two Grammy Awards for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album. She continues to perform and record music, showcasing her remarkable talent and vocal prowess.
