Reid is best known for his work as a pioneer in the Miami soul and funk music scene, as well as for his explicit and comedic lyrical content. He released numerous albums under his Blowfly persona, blending elements of soul, funk, and R&B with humorous and often controversial lyrics.

Aside from his work as Blowfly, Clarence Reid was also a successful songwriter and producer for other artists.
