Clyde McPhatter was an American rhythm and blues, gospel, and soul singer, born on November 15, 1932, in Durham, North Carolina. He was the lead singer of the influential group The Drifters and later embarked on a successful solo career. McPhatter's powerful and emotive vocals helped redefine the sound of R&B music in the 1950s. He was known for hits such as "Money Honey," "Such a Night," and "Honey Love."


McPhatter was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Drifters in 1988. He is also recognized for his contributions to the development of soul music and is considered one of the pioneers of the genre. Clyde McPhatter passed away on June 13, 1972, but his music continues to influence and inspire generations of artists.
