Commander Cody, whose real name is George Frayne, is an American musician best known as the founder and leader of the band Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. The band formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and they were pioneers in the country rock and rockabilly music genres. Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen gained popularity for their energetic live performances and humorous lyrics, blending elements of country, western swing, boogie-woogie, and rock and roll.
The band's most famous song, "Hot Rod Lincoln," was released in 1972 and became a hit, reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen disbanded in the late 1970s, but Commander Cody continued to perform and record music as a solo artist and with other musicians. He has maintained a loyal following over the years and is considered a significant figure in the country rock music scene.
