The Commodores are an American funk and soul band formed in 1968 in Tuskegee, Alabama. The group was originally known as the Mystics and later changed their name to the Commodores after signing with Motown Records in 1972. The members of the band included Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, Milan Williams, William King, Ronald LaPread, and Walter "Clyde" Orange.
The Commodores achieved commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Brick House," "Easy," and "Three Times a Lady." They were known for their unique blend of funk, soul, and R&B music. The band experienced a shift in their sound when Lionel Richie left to pursue a solo career in 1982, but they continued to release music and tour. The Commodores were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003, recognizing their contributions to the music industry.
