The Commodores are an American funk and soul band formed in 1968 in Tuskegee, Alabama. The group was originally known as The Mystics and later changed their name to The Commodores after signing with Motown Records in 1972. The band's original lineup consisted of Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, Milan Williams, William King, Ronald LaPread, and Walter "Clyde" Orange.
The Commodores achieved commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Brick House," "Easy," and "Three Times a Lady." They were known for their smooth harmonies, catchy melodies, and energetic live performances. The band received several Grammy nominations and awards during their career. Lionel Richie eventually left the group in 1982 to pursue a successful solo career, but The Commodores continued to release music and tour with a revamped lineup.
