The Commodores are an American funk and soul band formed in 1968 in Tuskegee, Alabama. The group's original lineup consisted of Lionel Richie, Thomas McClary, Milan Williams, William King, Ronald LaPread, and Walter "Clyde" Orange. They achieved mainstream success in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Easy," "Brick House," and "Three Times a Lady."
The band signed with Motown Records in 1972 and released a string of successful albums throughout the decade. They were known for their smooth harmonies, catchy melodies, and energetic live performances. The Commodores received multiple Grammy nominations and won their first Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for their hit song "Nightshift" in 1985. Despite lineup changes over the years, the Commodores continue to perform and tour, with their music remaining popular with fans of funk and soul music.
