Mayfield later pursued a successful solo career, releasing influential albums such as "Curtis" and "Super Fly."


Mayfield was known for his socially conscious lyrics and unique blend of soul, funk, and R&B music. He was also a pioneer in the development of funk and helped shape the sound of 1970s soul music. Mayfield's music often addressed themes of civil rights, social justice, and empowerment, making him a significant figure in the Black Power movement.
