David Gates is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer, best known as the lead singer of the soft rock band Bread. Born on December 11, 1940, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gates began his music career in the 1960s as a session musician and songwriter. In 1968, he formed Bread with guitarist James Griffin and keyboardist Robb Royer. The band went on to achieve commercial success with hits like "Make It with You," "Baby I'm-a Want You," and "Everything I Own."
In addition to his work with Bread, David Gates has also released solo albums and produced music for other artists. He is known for his smooth tenor voice, heartfelt lyrics, and melodic songwriting style, which have made him a prominent figure in the soft rock genre. Gates continues to perform and record music, maintaining a dedicated fan base around the world.
