David Gates is an American singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the lead singer of the 1970s soft rock band Bread. Born on December 11, 1940, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gates began his music career in the 1960s as a session musician and songwriter. He formed Bread in 1968, with the band going on to achieve great commercial success with hits like "Make It with You", "If", and "Baby I'm-a Want You".


In addition to his work with Bread, David Gates has also released solo albums and singles, including the song "Goodbye Girl", which was a top 40 hit in the United States. Gates is known for his smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics, and his music has been praised for its emotional depth and melodic beauty. He continues to perform and record music to this day, maintaining a dedicated fan base around the world.
