David Seville, also known as Ross Bagdasarian Sr., was an American singer and songwriter who created the fictional music group, The Chipmunks. The Chipmunks consisted of three animated anthropomorphic chipmunks named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, who were known for their high-pitched voices. David Seville served as the producer and mentor of the group, often singing alongside the Chipmunks in their songs. Their first single, "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)," was released in 1958 and became a massive hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The success of The Chipmunks led to multiple albums, TV shows, and movies, making them a beloved pop culture phenomenon. David Seville's creation of The Chipmunks earned him three Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Performance. Despite his passing in 1972, The Chipmunks continued to be popular through various revivals and adaptations, maintaining their status as iconic characters in the music industry.
