David Seville was the stage name of Ross Bagdasarian Sr., an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for creating the animated singing chipmunk characters Alvin and the Chipmunks. Seville's most famous song, "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)", became a huge success and won three Grammy Awards in 1959. The Chipmunks went on to have a successful music career with numerous hit singles and albums. Seville's unique recording technique of speeding up his own voice to create the high-pitched voices of the chipmunks became his signature style.
Aside from his work with the Chipmunks, Seville also had a successful career as a songwriter and producer. He wrote and produced several hit songs for other artists, including "Come On-a My House" for Rosemary Clooney. Seville's contributions to the music industry, particularly with the creation of Alvin and the Chipmunks, have left a lasting legacy that continues to entertain audiences of all ages.
