Deep Purple is a British rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. The band is considered to be one of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal music. Deep Purple has had a number of lineup changes over the years, with the most famous and successful lineup consisting of Ian Gillan on vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Jon Lord on keyboards, Roger Glover on bass, and Ian Paice on drums.
The band is best known for hits such as "Smoke on the Water," "Highway Star," and "Hush." Deep Purple has released numerous albums throughout their career, with their most successful being "Machine Head" released in 1972. The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Deep Purple was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
