Del Shannon was an American rock and roll and pop singer-songwriter born on December 30, 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is best known for his hit song "Runaway," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961. The song features Shannon's distinctive falsetto vocal style and a memorable keyboard riff.

Throughout his career, Del Shannon released numerous other hits, including "Hats Off to Larry," "Little Town Flirt," and "Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow the Sun)." He was also known for his songwriting skills, often collaborating with Max Crook, who played the musitron, an early version of the synthesizer, on many of Shannon's recordings. Del Shannon's music had a significant influence on the rock and pop music of the 1960s and beyond, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. Shannon tragically passed away on February 8, 1990, in Santa Clarita, California, at the age of 55.
