He is best known for his hit song "Runaway," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961. Shannon's distinctive falsetto voice and innovative use of the electric keyboard in "Runaway" set him apart from other artists of his time.
Following the success of "Runaway," Shannon continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with hits such as "Hats Off to Larry" and "Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow the Sun)." He struggled with personal and professional challenges throughout his career but remained a respected figure in the music industry. Del Shannon tragically passed away on February 8, 1990, in Santa Clarita, California, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of rock and roll music.
