Del Shannon was an American rock and roll and country musician born on December 30, 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is best known for his 1961 hit single "Runaway", which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song features Shannon's falsetto vocal style and a memorable keyboard riff played on a musitron, which was an early form of a synthesizer.
Throughout his career, Del Shannon released several other successful singles, including "Hats Off to Larry" and "Little Town Flirt". He was also known for his songwriting abilities and co-wrote many of his own songs. Shannon's music was influential in the development of rock and roll and he is considered one of the pioneers of the genre. Sadly, Del Shannon passed away on February 8, 1990, but his music continues to be celebrated and remembered by fans of classic rock and roll.
