Dennis Edwards was an American soul and R&B singer known for his powerful and distinctive voice. He was born on February 3, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, and passed away on February 1, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois. Edwards rose to fame as the lead singer of The Temptations, one of the most successful vocal groups in music history. He joined the group in 1968 and his gritty vocals helped define the "psychedelic soul" sound of the group during the late 1960s and 1970s.
During his tenure with The Temptations, Edwards recorded several hit songs including "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone," "Ball of Confusion," and "Cloud Nine." He also had a successful solo career, releasing albums such as "Don't Look Any Further." Edwards' contributions to music were recognized with multiple Grammy Awards and his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Temptations.
