Deodato is the stage name of Eumir Deodato de Almeida, a Brazilian pianist, composer, arranger, and producer born on June 22, 1942, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is known for his work in the jazz, pop, and bossa nova genres. Deodato gained international recognition in the 1970s for his fusion of jazz and funk, as well as for his successful adaptations of popular songs into instrumental hits.
Deodato has released over 30 albums throughout his career, with his most notable work being the album "Prelude" released in 1972, which included his Grammy Award-winning instrumental interpretation of Richard Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra," commonly known as the theme from the film "2001: A Space Odyssey." Deodato's music has been sampled by numerous hip-hop artists and continues to influence a wide range of musical genres to this day.
