Artist Bio:
Diana Ross & The Supremes were an American vocal group who achieved great success in the 1960s. The group was originally known as The Primettes and consisted of founding members Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Barbara Martin. In 1961, Martin left the group, and the trio officially became The Supremes. They signed with Motown Records and quickly rose to fame with hits such as "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," and "Stop! In the Name of Love."
Diana Ross eventually emerged as the lead singer and the group was renamed Diana Ross & The Supremes. They became one of Motown's most successful acts, with 12 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Ross left the group in 1970 to pursue a solo career, and The Supremes continued with new members until disbanding in 1977. Diana Ross & The Supremes are considered one of the most successful musical acts of the 1960s and helped pave the way for future female vocal groups.
