Digital Underground was an American alternative hip hop group formed in Oakland, California in 1987. The group was known for their unique blend of funk and humor in their music, as well as their eccentric stage presence. They were best known for their hit single "The Humpty Dance" from their debut album "Sex Packets" released in 1990, which reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Digital Underground was led by founder and frontman Gregory "Shock G" Jacobs, who also performed under the alter ego Humpty Hump. The group was notable for launching the career of rapper Tupac Shakur, who began as a roadie and dancer for the group before eventually becoming a prominent member. Digital Underground released a total of six studio albums before disbanding in the mid-2000s. Their legacy in hip hop is characterized by their innovative sound, comedic approach to music, and their influence on other artists in the genre.
