Digital Underground was an American alternative hip hop group formed in Oakland, California, in 1987. The group was known for their eclectic style, humorous lyrics, and use of live instrumentation in their music. They gained mainstream success with their hit single "The Humpty Dance" in 1990, which reached the top of the Billboard Rap Singles chart. Digital Underground was led by founder and frontman Gregory "Shock G" Jacobs, who also performed under the alter ego Humpty Hump.
In addition to their music, Digital Underground is also known for launching the career of Tupac Shakur, who was a member of the group before becoming a successful solo artist. Digital Underground released six studio albums between 1990 and 2008, showcasing their innovative approach to hip hop music and their influence on the genre.
