Dinah Washington, born Ruth Lee Jones on August 29, 1924, was an American singer and pianist. She was known for her powerful and emotive vocal delivery, which spanned a variety of genres including blues, jazz, R&B, and pop. Washington began her music career in the 1940s performing with various bands before achieving solo success in the 1950s.


Washington recorded numerous hits during her career, including "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" and "Unforgettable." She was known for her distinctive voice and ability to convey deep emotion in her performances. Washington's talent and influence earned her the nickname "Queen of the Blues." She was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Dinah Washington passed away on December 14, 1963, but her music continues to be celebrated and revered by fans and musicians alike.
