Dinah Washington, born Ruth Lee Jones on August 29, 1924, was an American singer and pianist. She was known for her powerful voice and versatile singing style, which ranged from blues and jazz to R&B and pop. Washington began performing in the 1940s and quickly gained recognition for her distinctive voice and emotional delivery. She recorded numerous hits throughout her career, including "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" and "Unforgettable."


Washington was one of the most popular African American female vocalists of her time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. She was also posthumously awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 for her significant contributions to the music industry. Dinah Washington's legacy continues to influence and inspire modern vocalists across various genres.
