Artist Bio:
Dire Straits were a British rock band formed in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (lead vocals and lead guitar), David Knopfler (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), John Illsley (bass guitar), and Pick Withers (drums). They gained international success with their self-titled debut album in 1978, which featured the hit single "Sultans of Swing." The band's sound was characterized by Mark Knopfler's distinctive fingerpicking style on the guitar, combined with a blend of rock, blues, and folk influences.

Throughout their career, Dire Straits released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Brothers in Arms" in 1985, which became one of the best-selling albums of all time. The band disbanded in 1995, but Mark Knopfler continued to pursue a successful solo career. Dire Straits were known for their musical craftsmanship, tight arrangements, and thoughtful lyrics, earning them a dedicated fan base and a lasting influence on the rock music landscape.
