The Dixie Chicks are an American country music band that formed in 1989 in Dallas, Texas. The group originally consisted of founding members Martie Erwin Maguire, Emily Erwin Robison, and Laura Lynch. Lynch was later replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995. The trio quickly gained fame for their bluegrass and country music sound, as well as their powerful vocal harmonies.
The Dixie Chicks have won numerous awards throughout their career, including 13 Grammy Awards, 9 Country Music Association Awards, and 14 Academy of Country Music Awards. They are also known for their activism and outspoken political views, particularly during the early 2000s when they faced backlash for their opposition to the Iraq War. The Dixie Chicks have sold over 33 million albums in the United States alone, making them one of the best-selling music acts in the country genre.
