The group originally consisted of founding members Martie Erwin Maguire, Emily Erwin Robison, and Laura Lynch. Lynch was later replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995. The trio quickly gained fame for their bluegrass and country music sound, as well as their powerful vocal harmonies.
