Artist Bio:
Domenico Modugno was an Italian singer, songwriter, actor, and politician, born on January 9, 1928, in Puglia, Italy, and passed away on August 6, 1994. He is best known for his hit song "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu" (commonly known as "Volare"), which won the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival in 1958 and later became an international success. Modugno's performance of the song at the Eurovision Song Contest the same year earned him third place and further solidified his fame.


In addition to his music career, Modugno also had success as an actor, starring in several films throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the film "The Great War" in 1959. Modugno later shifted his focus to politics and served as a member of the Italian Parliament from 1987 to 1992. Throughout his career, Domenico Modugno left a lasting impact on Italian music and culture.
