Earth Opera was an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1967 by Peter Rowan and David Grisman. The group was known for blending elements of folk, rock, and classical music, creating a unique sound that set them apart from other bands of the era. Earth Opera released their self-titled debut album in 1968, which featured intricate vocal harmonies and a variety of instruments, including banjo and violin.
Despite critical acclaim, Earth Opera only released two albums before disbanding in 1969. The band's music has since been recognized for its innovative approach to blending different genres and styles, as well as for its influence on the emerging psychedelic rock scene of the late 1960s. Peter Rowan and David Grisman both went on to have successful careers as solo artists and in other musical projects.
