Artist Bio:
Ed Townsend was an American singer, songwriter, and producer, born on April 16, 1929, in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He is best known for his songwriting and producing work, particularly for his hit song "For Your Love," which was later recorded by several artists including Sam Cooke and The Temptations. Townsend also had a successful solo career as a singer, with his biggest hit being "Stay With Me" in 1958.


In addition to his music career, Ed Townsend was also a civil rights activist and worked with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in the 1960s. He co-wrote the song "Let's Get It On" with Marvin Gaye, which became a huge hit in 1973. Townsend continued to have a successful career in the music industry until his passing on August 13, 2003, leaving behind a legacy of timeless music and contributions to the civil rights movement.
