Eddie Floyd is an American soul and R&B singer and songwriter, born on June 25, 1937, in Montgomery, Alabama. He is best known for his hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s, including "Knock on Wood," which reached number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966, as well as "Raise Your Hand" and "Big Bird." Floyd was a key figure in the development of the Memphis soul sound, having recorded at Stax Records and worked with legendary musicians such as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett.
Floyd's music has had a lasting influence on the soul and R&B genres, and he was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2002. He continues to perform and record music, keeping the spirit of classic soul alive for new generations of music lovers.
