Hodges gained widespread recognition for his role as the Artful Dodger in the 1960 film adaptation of the musical "Oliver!"

In addition to his acting career, Hodges also had success as a recording artist. He is best known for his hit single "I'm Gonna Knock on Your Door," which reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961.
