Rabbitt began his music career as a songwriter in Nashville, writing hits for artists such as Elvis Presley and Ronnie Milsap.

He released his self-titled debut album in 1975, which included the hit single "You Get to Me." Throughout his career, Rabbitt had numerous chart-topping hits, including "I Love a Rainy Night," "Drivin' My Life Away," and "Every Which Way But Loose." He was known for blending elements of country, pop, and rock music in his songs. Rabbitt passed away on May 7, 1998, at the age of 56, due to lung cancer.
