He found success in the 1960s and 1970s with his powerful and dynamic vocals, known for his energetic performances and socially conscious lyrics. Starr is best known for his protest song "War," which was released in 1970 and became a major hit, reaching the top of the charts in the United States.
Starr's other notable hits include "25 Miles" and "Stop the War Now." He was signed to the Motown record label and collaborated with artists such as The Temptations and Marvin Gaye. Edwin Starr was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2012. He passed away on April 2, 2003, in England, where he had lived since the 1970s.
