Edwin Starr was an American soul and R&B singer-songwriter born on January 21, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee. He rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s with his powerful and passionate vocals, and is best known for his protest song "War," which became a major hit in 1970. The song's anti-war message resonated with audiences during the Vietnam War era and earned Starr a Grammy nomination.


Starr's other notable hits include "Twenty-Five Miles," "Stop the War Now," and "H.A.P.P.Y. Radio." He had a successful music career, releasing numerous albums and singles throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Starr's music often featured socially conscious themes and powerful vocal performances, earning him a reputation as a soul music icon.
