Edwin Starr was an American singer and songwriter known for his powerful and soulful voice. He was born on January 21, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Starr began his music career in the 1960s, initially as a member of the popular vocal group The Future Tones.


Starr gained international fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s with hits such as "War" and "Twenty-Five Miles." "War" became one of his most iconic songs and a protest anthem against the Vietnam War. Throughout his career, Starr continued to release music and perform live, earning a reputation as a dynamic and engaging performer. He passed away on April 2, 2003, but his music and legacy continue to be celebrated by fans of soul and Motown music.
