Artist Bio

Artist Bio:
Edwin Starr was an American soul and R&B singer-songwriter born on January 21, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is best known for his hit song "War," which was released in 1970 and became an anthem for the anti-Vietnam War movement. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has since been covered by various artists.

Starr began his music career in the 1950s as a member of the vocal group The Future Tones before embarking on a solo career in the 1960s. He recorded for various record labels throughout his career, including Motown, and had several other successful singles such as "25 Miles" and "Stop the War Now." Starr's powerful and soulful voice, combined with his socially conscious lyrics, made him a prominent figure in the soul music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. He passed away on April 2, 2003, in England.
