Elton John, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, is a British singer, songwriter, and pianist. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s with his flamboyant stage presence and hit songs such as "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," and "Your Song." John has sold over 300 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has won multiple Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the Disney film "The Lion King."
Aside from his successful music career, Elton John is also known for his philanthropic work. He established the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992, which aims to raise funds for HIV/AIDS prevention and support services. In 1998, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to music and charity. Elton John announced in 2018 that he would be embarking on a farewell tour, "Farewell Yellow Brick Road," to mark the end of his touring career.
