EPMD is known for their influential music in the golden age of hip hop, particularly in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They are considered pioneers of the East Coast hip hop sound, blending funk and samples to create a unique style that set them apart in the rap scene.

EPMD released their debut album "Strictly Business" in 1988, which was a critical and commercial success. They followed up with several more albums throughout the 1990s, including "Unfinished Business" and "Business Never Personal."
